So, the The Problem Solving Engine will punish you dearly in coaching. And so, what has gotten you to this point today, being a really rock star consultant, solution provider, will get in the way of you being a successful coach. It is a totally different set of skills. You call yourself a coach but do you really have those skills? Now some of you may have done some training already. My challenge to you though is, when you’re working with a client, a member, you need to bring out their ability to coach themselves, their ability to solve their own problems, and their ability to come up with the solution and follow through. You know the key in coaching is not what happens during the session, the key in coaching is what happens between sessions. Between board meetings, ok? So, how prepared are your members? How much do they follow through on their homework? How much do they challenge other board members in the meeting? Ok, if you answered, well, not so much to any one of those three. That’s where the coaching skills come into play.
