When I had my landscaping company, my average sale was fifty thousand dollars and I guaranteed what I call the standard meaning the standard proposal for the standard, you know scope of work and I had what was called the guarantee. The guarantee was no matter what the weather and I lived outside of New Jersey so we get frost on snow, nothing Canadian but we got it, we got rough weather and a spring and a winter and sometimes in the fall but i promised a start date no matter what the weather, I promise the finish date no matter what happened in between pouring everyday, rain everyday, didn’t matter I was obligated to finish on a certain day. I guaranteed that there would be no contractor driven change orders meaning if I told you a price and you didn’t change anything in the scope of work there will be no additional prices you will get, okay? The fourth thing that I did was I guaranteed that you would have the same numbers of shrub material, plant material one year later as you did that day. Slight distinction I don’t exactly guarantee the plants I guarantee the number, so the next year what I would always do is over plant by two or three percent so if a couple of them died the next year, I’d show up, I’d say count them up and they’d say “we have a hundred and one plants you said you planted 100,” you’re right, see ya and I was gone.
